Point Lobos in Monterey is where you'll find these sea softened pebbles. Add the sound of gentle waves and the smell of fresh salt air - it's a very calming experience.
I ride my old bike up Montara Mountain every few months - after I've forgotten how hard it is. It's a brutal climb, but the 360 degree view of the bay area are worth every pedal.
Three NFL team identities by Verlander Design - captured in one photo - the 2012 Pro Bowl game in Honolulu. You can view all of our NFL sports identity projects here.
I ride past this stump going up Montara Mountain - it looks like a gnome or Hobbit should be relaxing on it.
The Sippy Cups are our band for kids. This is Snail Song - from the album Electric Storyland, available on iTunes here.
I spied this little guy on a warm and foggy summer walk.
We’re a tiny studio that works on big and small projects. We’re artists and musicians who draw + paint + snap pictures. We’re always trying new ideas. It keeps our work fresh. We have a studio full of creativity just waiting for you!
I always tell students, kids, or anyone that'll listen: Take the time to make your own art, make it out of anything - cereal boxes, old newspaper, house paint - just have fun!
These amazing bright green plants (echium) grow all over the coast. I like watching them grow - seems like ten feet high in a season.
I walked by this tree every day - a majestic 100 foot pine - but huge parts of the trunk fell away from beetles. After they cut it down I counted the rings - can you?
This is our studio - we've been doing it for 20 years now. Time flies when you're having fun.
I walked past these leaves in the pathway for days - looking just like this. I finally carefully brought them home an photographed them.
I drive an older car (1971) - my dad's car - I remember buying it with him when I was a kid. One day, the salt air finally ate through the radiator and blew the head gasket. It was the first time I ever repaired an engine - it took a year - but I loved learning how to do it!
A tiny cat purse made out of beads - how do they do it?!
I used to think that walking through a field was not that beautiful - but over the years the subtlety emerges - a lot like life I think. That's my Pat moment.
This is a limited edition silkscreen poster that I created for Robert Mondavi on his 90th birthday. My dad took me to meet him - a great winemaker - and a real treat. Look for the hidden grape leaves in his hair. If you'd like to purchase a poster, please contact Verlander Design.
I drink Peet's - with an old french press. Morning ritual: grind the beans, honey - or a little brown sugar - and cream. Mmmm.
I like to paint portraits of friends when I get the chance. Usually a quick sitting - about a an hour. These are details from some larger canvases - about 3 x 4 feet.
I remember my dad bringing home Sgt Peppers when it first came out - music filling the house - it was a magical time for Rock and Roll.
